So if you've reached this page, you're probably wondering who in the hell this hodgepodge belongs to. Well, that would be me, in all of my trainwreck glory.
I'm middle-aged and a bad witch --and I mean that in the "oh fuck the moon is full?" kind of way-- I'm bisexual, a semi-closeted bigender individual, and a sex-neutral aseuxal.
I do have a partner, and he is the sweetest, silliest man I've ever met --I have never laughed this much during sex, let me tell you. He's a talented drummer and dabbles in other instruments as well, which is incredible as he was born with Cerebral Palsy. He's so happy to be able to play music with his friends, and I'm happy too because it's so nice to see him in his element. We've been together almost 10 years, and *technically* we're engaged, but legally we are not. Did you know that in the USA, disabled folks can't get married without losing their benefits? Hell, if the SSI office suspects your roommate too much, it can put you under intense scrutiny.
I have very stong feelings about plants, foraging and native foodways, as well as Land Back (you can get more context here.) I'm also undiagnosed ADHD, but i'm working on a professional diagnosis, so you'll probably find a bunch of unfinished or forgotten stuff here from time to time. Like all the projects I have scattered around my house.
I'm a physical media enthusiast, which is a nice way to say packrat. I have a rather large collection of books on a wide variety of topics, an eclectic collection of vinyl, and most of the video games I've owned in my life. There's also a decent handful of cds and DVDs each, as well as a few small boxes of VHS. I actually rather like having the VHS over DVDs, simply because I can stop a movie, and I don't have to futz with a menu to try to find my place again. Maybe it's just the Millenial in me, I don't know.
Your site looks a little... lame.
First of all, ouch. Second of all, yeah, I know. The idea behind my design comes from two places:
1) I am very new at this, I haven't done this in 20 years.
2) I like the idea of this being Old Net accesible.
I haven't fully worked this site to be truly accessible on legacy browsers, and may never. I don't use a legacy browser, and I don't know anyone who does, but the idea that anyone can visit it --be it on a phone, a modern laptop, or a vintage desktop-- really tickles me. I do think that this is something that I would like to continue with. Who knows, maybe one day I will scrap it and rebuild as an actually pretty website. I dunno, tho, I'm kinda lazy.
You also won't get a lot of GIFs or moving parts on here --as cool as they can be. I want this to be as easy to load as possible. I actually find it incredibly frustrating when there's a lot to load on a page, because I don't use powerful machines. My phone is a Galaxy A12 and my home computer is a Lenovo that's about 7 years out of date, so they get bogged down pretty easily. I know I'm not the only one, either, so hopefully this makes it easier to use, if not as slick looking.
What's with the Comic Sans, tho? That's kinda silly.
Remember how I like accessability? Comic Sans is one of the most widely available fonts that can make it easier for someone with dyslexia to read and process information. Yes, there is that really fun and cool Dyslexia font that they developed, but most machines have Comic Sans in their font files (but not my phone, apparently). If you are not seeing everything in Comic Sans, well, then now you know what the hell this section was talking about.
One might think "Huh, that's a little weird to have, let alone on EVERY page", and that's okay. As someone who has had to use the helpline multiple times, I want anyone who needs it to have it.
You never know when you'll go into a spiral, you never know when somebody may be hanging on by a thread and is about ready to give up. The odds that someone on the brink might be scrolling my website one day might me miniscule, but it's not zero.
And hey, if that's you? Just know you're not alone. There's a ton of us here, for one reason or another. No matter if you're telling yourself "But I don't even have it that BAD, other people have it WORSE!!", it does not negate your emotions or your feelings. You may have come here from a different path, but we can all give each other kindness. You are just as worthy of help and love and care as everyone else in this pit.
oh. cool.
Yeah. Cool.
